Stories which do not readily sit in established genres are a great opportunity for designers to try new ideas; a novel based on an unusual narrative style or unconventional characters might demand a more radical cover design.
In the case of international or translated fiction, if an author does not have immediate name recognition in another country then the cover must do even more to stand out in a bookshop.
