A new Robin Hood film is about to hit cinemas, with Taron Egerton playing the legendary outlaw and following in the footsteps of Errol Flynn, Sean Connery and Kevin Costner, among others…
The familiar characters of the Merry Men, Marian and the Sheriff of Nottingham are all in place, although not always in the expected form – Jamie Foxx’s Little John appears to be a mentor to the young Robin rather than a sidekick.
Egerton’s take on the character also appears to be more of a daredevil thief, in contrast to the grizzled warrior portrayed by Russell Crowe in 2010, the last major screen outing for Robin Hood.
In keeping with recent action blockbuster trends, the 2018 incarnation looks to be more colourful and with a generous injection of humour.
